The Life of a Freelancer: Featuring Summer Burnout
Our Honest Review of Summer 2025
With Taylor Swift dropping her The Life of a Showgirl announcement, we got inspired (because in Taylor we trust!) what would our Summer sound like as an album? Spoiler: no submerged in water photoshoots.Without further a due, we present The Life of a Freelancer: featuring Summer Burnout. Here’s our personal Summer tracklist:
Track 1:
The Fate of Our Free Time
We promised ourselves a slower Summer, but as freelancers, “slow” didn’t exactly happen. We thought we were in for a quiet period but somehow, the work found us! Whilst we can’t complain, between collaborative projects, client work, and creative experiments, our calendars were busier than ever and that left us clawing for precious personal time for ourselves as well as with our family and friends.
Track 2:
Reset Opalite
The idea of a proper reset is still on the horizon. Our holidays aren’t booked until September and October, so we’re holding out for that overdue pause. We have tried to embrace JOMO this summer and see it that we have avoided the crowds and our time away will be quieter and blissful…but fellow freelancers and small business owners, you know the feeling when everyone else is sunning it up and you’re in your small biz cave…!
Track 3: Ruin the Feed
Everyone else is elsewhere. We’ve been too busy to think up and create quality content. Some posts flopped. Engagement dropped. It shouldn’t matter, but when you put your energy into creating content, the “why didn’t this work?” feeling hits hard. The silver lining…we decided to spend far less time on socials and the break has felt good.
Track Four: Actually Community
Our community reel was the highlight of the season for us. Making it pulled us back to why we do what we do, which is connecting, collaborating, and celebrating our creative network. It’s the kind of work that leaves us smiling long after the camera stops rolling and the views dry up. We want to do way more post like this going forward, for the love of it rather than worrying too much about reach and engagement.
Track Five: Wish List
Sammi has fallen in love with her veg patch, thanks to a little encouragement from friends at The Kin Club. Miriam dove into cacao, card reading, and self-discovery experiments. Small creative adventures like these remind us that learning never stops, even for freelancers. Dare we admit that our sister community is rubbing off on us…just a little…?
Track Six: Honey, we’re middle aged
Reading is officially back on our radar. We started a tiny book club with work friends and personal friends, proving that worlds can collide in the best way when you band together like-minded people and literature. We are reading new genres that we wouldn’t always choose and the conversation is proving both engaging and belly-laugh entertaining. Apparently we just can’t stop creating communities.
Track Seven: The Life of an Autumn/Winter Girl
We may be Summer survivors, but our hearts belong to Autumn and Winter. Cooler air, chai lattes, orange leaves, cozy fires, and endless Gilmore Girls reruns, bring it on. We have our oversized knits at the ready!
Bonus Track: The Truth About Summer
Now we want to hear from you. How was your Summer? The highs, the lows, and what you’re carrying into the next season. Are you a Spring/Summer enthusiast or a loyal Autumn/Winter fan?
